Well, it was the year we could never have imagined but nothing was going to stop us planning for the most magical Christmas grotto yet!
With new inspiration and ideas clattering around in my brain, I started sourcing props and decorations, whilst designing new set plans for the grotto back in February 2020.
As the end of Summer came and went, we tentatively began mapping out the walkways and Christmas backdrops in the barn, knowing we needed to create a wonderland fit for the magic man himself, Santa Claus.
We were put on hold when on Halloween another lockdown was announced but we kept a belly fully of faith, trust and pixie dust, and lo and behold before we knew it the beams were dripping in sparkles, and the floor was blanketed with soft fluffy snow, ready and waiting for Santa Claus’ arrival.
When we were given the ‘OK’ to go ahead we all rejoiced, donned our favourite Christmas jumpers and flung the barn doors wide open to welcome a fully booked diary of visitors.
Santa Claus was as magnificent as always. Arriving in style on his breathtaking magical sleigh with Blitzen at the helm, he delighted the children with his stories, jokes and impressive knowledge of their Christmas wishes!
The most joyous thing for us all was seeing so many happy, smiling, laughing children. We know how important it is to maintain some normality for them during these crazy times, and of course, always to preserve the magic of Christmas. We related to the sparkle in parent’s eyes as they watched their little ones wander through our frozen kingdoms and look in awe at all the beautiful touches that brought our rustic barn to life. We know that these little things must be enjoyed and cherished, and stored in our brains to reminisce upon as our children grow older.
It was devastating to have to close our doors earlier than we had all hoped, and we were so sad to have to contact all the families who were yet to meet Santa and cancel their visits.
Looking forward, our plans for 2021 are already beginning to be envisioned. But of course, cannot yet be revealed ☺
